§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the circumstances in which Mr. Godfrey Shiner was released from detention in Egypt.
§ Mr. RentonMr. Shiner was released from detention conditionally on bail in Egypt on 23 February 1985 following an application by his lawyer to the Egyptian courts. Mr. Shiner was originally detained on 17 November for questioning by Egyptian police in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate a Libyan exile. He was due to leave Egypt on 30 April under a deportation order. His departure has been delayed and we have asked the Egyptian authorities the reason for this delay.
