HC Deb 02 May 1985 vol 78 c211W
18. Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to ensure that women whose applications for citizenship have been delayed pending consideration of their husband's immigration status will now have their applications given priority.

Mr. Waddington

Arrangements have been introduced with the object of preserving the place in the queue of a wife's application while her papers are being used in the consideration of her husband's immigration status. If the woman's application comes to the top of the queue when her papers are still elsewhere in the Department some delay is bound to occur while study of the papers is completed and the papers returned but every effort is made to keep this to a minimum.
