asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is his response to the recent publication produced by the Low Pay Unit and the northern region of the General Municipal Boilermakers and Allied Trades Union on the subject of low pay in the northern region, a copy of which has been sent to him.

I have not received a copy of the report to which the hon. Member refers; but have subsequently seen the report. I note that its recommendations are addressed to trade unions and local authorities. The hon. Member cannot expect me to agree with much of the report's content and in particular the comments on Government policies.
