§ Mr. DunnAverage expenditure per pupil is available for England and Wales for the financial years 1977–78 and 1978–79. Since 1979–80 my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales kept separate information on the costs of education in Wales; but unit costs remain broadly comparable with earlier years. On this basis the net recurrent institutional expenditure per full-time equivalent pupil in maintained nursery, primary and secondary schools and in special education was as follows in each year, in cash terms:
