asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many grants have been (a) applied for and (b) made, under section 36 of the Transport Act 1981, for the installation or expansion of wharf facilities on inland waterways.

Four formal applications for section 36 grants have been received, and three of these have been approved, the fourth, only recently received, is still being considered.
