HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 cc26-7W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the extent of the teachers' pay dispute in Wales; and what progress has been made towards a settlement.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

Responsibility for the pay and conditions of service of teachers in England and Wales rests with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science. There was a half day strike by members of the NAS/UWT on 26 February which involved all counties in Wales and members of the same union have been on strike in selected schools in Dyfed for the last fortnight and in Clwyd this past week. Members of the NUT have had three-day strikes in selected schools in Clwyd and Dyfed for the past three weeks and in Gwynedd and Powys for the last two weeks. There has also been disruption in schools in all counties as a result of the withdrawal of goodwill.
