HC Deb 13 March 1985 vol 75 c172W
24. Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his latest estimate of the number of adult males unemployed in the Glasgow eastern area renewal area of Glasgow; and what percentage this represents.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Unemployment figures for the GEAR area of Glasgow are not available. However, at 10 January 1985, the latest date for which information is available, the estimated number of males claiming unemployment benefit in the post-code sectors wholly or partly contained within the GEAR area of Glasgow was 4,140.

Unemployment percentage rates are not calculated for areas smaller than travel-to-work areas. The GEAR area forms only a part of the wider Glasgow travel-to-work area where the unemployment rate at the same date was 17.7 per cent.
