asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of the domestic ratepayers receive housing benefit in the metropolitan areas of (a) Liverpool, (b) Sheffield, (c) Stockport and (d) Solihull.

Mr. Whitney

We estimate from authorities' subsidy returns that the proportion of domestic ratepayers currently receiving housing benefit in the areas requested is as follows:

  1. (a) 50 per cent.
  2. (b) 42 per cent.
  3. (c) 28 per cent.
  4. (d) 36 per cent.
