HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 cc574-5W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what consideration he is giving to the findings or the Scottish Council (Development and Industry) Conference on training investment held in Edinburgh on 27 February.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The conference, "The Training Investment," was promoted jointly by the Scottish Council (Development and Industry) and the Manpower Services Comission to serve two purposes. First, it provided an opportunity to discuss the council's report "YTS and Beyond," which looked at YTS experience in Dundee and Renfrew and how the scheme fits into the wider training scene. This linked with the second purpose, which was to launch the adult training campaign in Scotland, for the implementation of which the Government have asked the Manpower Services Commission to assume responsibility. The conference provided an appropriate forum for stimulating debate on adult training among senior employers, trade unionists, educationists and others. The conference proceedings will prove valuable in carrying the campaign forward and the Government are grateful to the Scottish Council and the Manpower Services Commission for their initiative in promoting it. The conference was not designed to produce findings as such.
