includes induction training, formal and informal on-the-job training, and training away from the work place. Information about the duration of training is not available. This training is in addition to that being provided under the Government's adult training strategy, which I described in my reply to the hon. Member of 21 February, at column 515.

Sample survey evidence indicates that on leaving the programme, around 23 per cent. of participants went straight into a job and a further 4 per cent. into training or full-time education. When interviewed, an average 7.7 months after leaving the programme a third of former participants had a job, and a further 5 per cent. were in training.

Further information about the community programme is available in two sample surveys of community programme participants, conducted in autumn 1983 and spring 1984 by social and community planning research, and from an internal follow-up sample survey of participants conducted in May-August 1984. Copies of all these are in the Library of the House.
