§ Mr. Fisherasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish a table showing the total tax taken as a proportion of gross domestic product in (a) the United Kingdom and (b) each of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries in each of the last 10 years.
§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 25 February 1985, c. 58]: Comparisons between total tax and gross national product for OECD countries may be derived from "OECD National Accounts, 1965–82" or on a slightly different basis, from "Revenue Statistics of OECD Member Countries, 1965–83". Such comparisons are also to be found in an article entitled "International comparisons of taxes and social security contributions in 20 OECD countries" published annually in Economic Trends. The latest version of this article is to be published in the forthcoming edition of Economic Trends (No. 376). In view of the interest in such comparisons at this time, I have arranged for advance copies of the article to be available in the Library of the House.
Similar data for the United Kingdom up to 1983 are shown in "United Kingdom National Accounts, 1984 edition", table 3.10.
§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the Official Report the percentage changes since the previous year of output-based gross domestic product in the United Kingdom for each year since 1979, giving first the total figure, then the figure excluding oil and gas extraction, then the total percentage change 1978 to 1984 for total output, output-based gross domestic product, and for output-based gross domestic product, excluding gas and oil extraction.
§ Mr. Peter Rees[pursuant to his reply, 4 March 1985]: The information requested is as follows:
