§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent the National Health Service drugs bill was reduced as a result of (a) the 2.5 per cent. reduction in National Health Service medicine prices agreed with pharmaceutical manufacturers in August 1983 and (b) the reduction by 4 percentage points in the return on capital allowed under the pharmaceutical price retail scheme to pharmaceutical manufacturers with effect from April 1984.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe annual value (United Kingdom) of the August 1983 price reduction, and the reductions in the rates of return on capital allowed from 1 April 1984 are estimated at £35 million and £65 million respectively.
