HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c408W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what extent the National Health Service drugs bill was reduced as a result of (a) the 2.5 per cent. reduction in National Health Service medicine prices agreed with pharmaceutical manufacturers in August 1983 and (b) the reduction by 4 percentage points in the return on capital allowed under the pharmaceutical price retail scheme to pharmaceutical manufacturers with effect from April 1984.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The annual value (United Kingdom) of the August 1983 price reduction, and the reductions in the rates of return on capital allowed from 1 April 1984 are estimated at £35 million and £65 million respectively.
