HC Deb 01 March 1985 vol 74 cc299-300W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the value of surplus Army equipment destroyed at the royal ordnance factory at Euxton since 1 January.

Mr. Lee

I am not aware that any surplus equipment of recent Army origin has been destroyed at the royal ordnance factory at Chorley (Euxton) since 2 January 1985, although I understand that some items of world war two vintage may have been destroyed during site clearance in preparation for rebuilding work. I suggest the hon. Member writes to the chairman if he wishes to obtain further details.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why surplus Army uniforms, boots, overcoats and blankets have been destroyed at the royal ordnance factory at Euxton since 1 January; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The reason for the destruction of any items of Army clothing or bedding at the royal ordnance factory at Euxton is, since 2 January 1985, the concern of Royal Ordnance plc and not the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many blankets, sheets, boots and overcoats, respectively, have been destroyed at the royal ordnance factory at Euxton since 1 January.

Mr. Lee

The quantities of any blankets, sheets, boots and overcoats destroyed at the royal ordnance factory at Euxton since 2 January 1985 are the concern of Royal Ordnance plc and not the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether it is normal practice to dispose of surplus military clothing by destroying it at royal ordnance factory, Euxton.

Mr. Lee

No.
