HC Deb 01 March 1985 vol 74 c300W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what arrangements exist for informing local authorities in Scotland when military low flying below the normal minimum of 250 ft is due to take place.

Mr. Lee

Military flying at heights below 250 ft is normally authorised only in special training areas which have been established over some of the most sparsely populated areas of the United Kingdom. Local authorities were informed about these areas when they were first established.

Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what percentage of low flying exercises in the Highlands restricted area is conducted below the normal minimum of 250 ft.

Mr. Lee

Less than 5 per cent.
