HC Deb 24 June 1985 vol 81 c274W
Sir John Farr

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has yet received the results of the survey of consumer understanding of food labelling which was commissioned in connection with the recommendations of the report of the Committee on the Medical Aspects of Food Policy on diet and cardiovascular disease.

Mrs. Fenner

Yes. The Government, the Consumers Association and the National Consumer Council collaborated in this survey with a view to assessing consumer understanding of and requirements for fat content and nutrition labelling. I have arranged for a summary of this work to be placed in the Library of the House. We shall be taking these results into account, alongside the views that have emerged from our consultations with all interested parties, in making proposals for implementing the labelling recommendations of the COMA report and in producing a revised version of the draft guidelines on nutrition labelling.
