asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the road safety aspects of the unmarked crossing between St. Stephen's entrance and St. Margaret's churchyard.

I am informed that the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis takes the view that, provided normal care is exercised both vehicular and pedestrian traffic should at all times be able to negotiate the crossing safely. A police officer takes up a position at the crossing for about eight to 10 minutes when a Division is called in order to halt traffic for hon. Members proceeding to the House
