asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what research is being currently undertaken by the Home Office scientific research and development branch into the possible use of computers in police vehicles.

The Home Office scientific research and development branch is not currently undertaking research into the possible use of computers in police vehicles but a study of the cost-effectiveness of mobile data terminals is expected to start during the next 12 months.
