HC Deb 03 June 1985 vol 80 c100W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what investigations of the effects of organophosphorus pesticides on the blood serum-cholinesterase levels of the general public living in areas subject to aerial spraying are being or will be conducted or are planned by his Department.

Mr. John Patten

None. Procedures exist for blood to be tested for cholinesterase levels as quickly as possible to enable a full clinical assessment of anyone complaining of exposure to organophosphorus or carbamate pesticides. The Department's booklet—"Pesticide Poisoning: notes for the guidance of medical practitioners" issued to all GPs —and to hospital accident and emergency departments —sets out the relevant advice.
