Procedures exist for blood to be tested for cholinesterase levels as quickly as possible to enable a full clinical assessment of anyone complaining of exposure to organophosphorus or carbamate pesticides. The Department's booklet—"Pesticide Poisoning: notes for the guidance of medical practitioners" issued to all GPs —and to hospital accident and emergency departments —sets out the relevant advice.
