HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c971W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what he estimates to be the cost of treating tooth decay in school age children in each of the last five years.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

[pursuant to his reply, 16 July 1985, c. 137]: The cost of providing fillings, crowns and inlays or pinlays in school age children in England under the general dental service for each of the last five years was as follows:

£ million
1980 19.9
1981 21.7
1982 21.8
1983 22.4
1984 21.8

The cost of similar treatment provided under the community and hospital dental services cannot be separately identified.
