HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c812W
Ms. Harman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the latest position as regards the implementation by his Department of the recommendations which affect its responsibilities of the report of the Finer committee on one-parent families.

Mr. Mellor

The implications for the magistrates' courts of the establishment of a family court are among the matters being considered by an inter-Departmental working group set up by my noble and learned Friend the Lord Chancellor and the Home Secretary. The working group intends to issue a consultative paper later in the year.

As a result of earlier consideration of other recommendations of the Finer committee affecting the responsibilities of the Department, recommendations 1 and 2 were rejected; recommendations 41, 52, 53 and 225 were implemented, in whole or in part.
