HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c911W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Attorney-General what was the total cost to public funds of bringing prosecutions against those involved in the recent Newham seven trial.

The Attorney-General

This case is not fully concluded and no application has yet been made in respect of prosecution costs. If an order is made for payment of the prosecution costs from central funds, they will be subject to taxation by the appropriate officer of the Crown Court. All these defendants are legally aided and the defence costs will be the subject of determination by an officer of the Crown court.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Attorney-General what was the cost of bringing prosecutions in the Newham eight trial.

The Attorney-General

The costs of the prosecution in this case were awarded from central funds. The costs are paid as taxed into court. It is not the practice to disclose the sums involved in individual cases.
