HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c852W
Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the amount of milk produced in the first three months of the 1985 quota year: what is the comparison with 1983 levels for the same period: and what percentage above or below quota production is at present.

Mr. John MacKay

No figures are available on the volume of milk produced for direct sale during the first three months of 1985–86 quota year. Wholesale deliveries totalled 373.5 million litres compared to deliveries of 398.5 million litres in the same period in 1983.84, before quotas were introduced. It is estimated that deliveries as a whole were about 2 per cent. above quota.

Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will maintain the current Scottish share of the milk production quota.

Mr. John MacKay

The distribution of total quota within the United Kingdom and the quota of individual producers was established at the outset of quotas last year, on the basis of historical levels of production and trends.

Any alteration in that basic distribution would affect producers' quotas and this is not proposed.
