HC Deb 25 July 1985 vol 83 c699W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Energy when his Department discovered that United Kingdom origin depleted uranium had been sent from Luxembourg to Israel; and what steps he is taking to prevent such transfers in future.

Mr. Goodlad

The United Kingdom first learned in November 1984 of the diversion to Israel of depleted uranium originally exported to Luxembourg. The issues raised by this case are now under discussion within Euratom to ensure a common interpretation of the safeguards regulations with regard to material transferred for non-nuclear uses.
