HL Deb 25 July 1985 vol 466 c1450WA
Lord Plant

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How long the scaffolding structure outside New Scotland Yard has been in place, whether the reason for this erection has yet been ascertained, and how much longer it is to remain.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Glenarthur)

The protective fan around the New Scotland Yard building was erected in March 1981 for public safety reasons when cracks began to appear in its granite cladding. Work on recladding the building is in progress and should be completed within two years. As the work progresses, the protective fan will progressively be dismantled.
