HC Deb 11 July 1985 vol 82 c531W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1), pursuant to his reply of 2 July, Official Report, column 59, if he will make regulations under the Abortion Act 1967 to provide that in the case of an abortion performed between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy, the doctor who performs the abortion shall specifically certify all cases where the grounds for the abortion under section 1(1)(a) of the Act relate solely to the sex of the unborn child; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will introduce legislation to render unlawful abortion on grounds which relate solely to the sex of the unborn child; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Abortion on grounds relating to the sex of the foetus is not provided for in the Abortion Act and is therefore already unlawful.
