HC Deb 10 July 1985 vol 82 c438W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department has commissioned publicity to draw attention to the dangers of using caustic soda and other paint strippers; and if he will make it his policy that these products should carry a health warning.

Mr. Fletcher

I have been asked to reply.

The Classification Packaging and Labelling of Dangerous Substances Regulations 1984, which come into force next year and to which the Government will give appropriate publicity, prescribe warning labelling for all products such as paint strippers which contain corrosive, toxic or harmful chemicals, so that users will know to take care. I am also proposing to prescribe child resistant closures for certain household chemicals including caustic or harmful paint strippers.
