§ Mr. ButcherThe number of staff in the Department has increased from 12,582 on April 1 1984 to 12,620 on April 1 1985. This net figure reflects a number of structural changes involving transfer of work into and out of the Department; staff savings from increased efficiency, general streamlining and contracting out of services; and increases in staff to deal with increased workload at the Companies Registration Office, and elsewhere.
