§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what payments he has made in the last year to the neuropathogens laboratory at Edinburgh university, Kings Buildings, for work on dementia.
§ Mr. BrookeThe neuropathogenesis unit in Edinburgh is jointly funded by the Agricultural and Food Research Council and the Medical Research Council, which receive grants-in-aid from the Department. I understand that in the financial year 1984–85 expenditure at the unit on work directly concerned with dementia was estimated to be about £19,000. In addition, much of the unit's total budget of £510,000 was directed to work which might prove relevant to understanding of diseases such as dementia.
