HC Deb 10 July 1985 vol 82 cc475-6W
49. Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money has been committed by his Department to projects within the city of Leicester in 1985 and to date; and if he will estimate the number of jobs this created.

Sir George Young

since 1979–80 Leicester has received capital expenditure allocations of some £128 million for housing and £34 million for its inner area programme. Allocations for 1985–86 were £15 million and £5.43 million, respectively. In addition, Leicester has received grant towards expenditure of £65,081 on reclamation of derelict land over the period, none of it in 1985–86. Over the same period, the Housing Corporation, which is funded by my Department, has made allocations of £39 million for schemes in Leicester including £7.1 million in the current year. My right hon. Friend cannot say how many jobs have been created by these allocations.
