HC Deb 01 July 1985 vol 82 c70W
12. Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has met, or has any plans to meet, the Football League and Football Association's representatives to discuss the travelling arrangements for football fans in the light of British Rail's decision not to operate special trains for football fans in future.

Mr. Ridley

I understand that BR has not decided to stop running special trains for football fans. It has decided, as a general rule to withdraw low fares specifically for football fans on sponsored trains. Organized groups will still get a discount on other trains. BR will also encourage clubs to charter more trains. I met the football authorities with the Prime Minister on 12 June.
