§ Mr. Allen McKayasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his policy towards the future development of disused industrial land which is not currently eligible for derelict land grant; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneThe Government are concerned that disused industrial land should be brought back into productive use as soon as possible. In many areas where26W land is not eligible for derelict land grant there are other grants, particularly urban development grant and the urban programme.
§ Mr. Allen McKayasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will conduct a review of the various forms of grant available for environmental improvement work in areas of industrial and other man-made dereliction in order to establish the extent to which the current system offers scope for simplifications; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneWe have recently reviewed derelict land reclamation policy, including the proposed after-use of reclaimed sites. We propose to issue for consultation shortly a draft circular to local authorities which will set out priorities for the programme and outline the changes to the system which we propose to introduce for the next financial year.
