HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 cc59-60W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the present balance of funds accumulated by gift or endowment and remaining at the disposal of Westminster hospital.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The annual accounts of the special trustees for the Westminster and Roehampton hospitals for 1983–84 submitted to our Department show a balance of funds of £3,512,437.78 as at 31 March 1984.

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list in the Official Report the number and names of wards and beds which have been closed since 1979, together with the specialties which have been transferred or terminated at Westminster hospital; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We do not collect the sort of detailed local information centrally which would be required to answer fully the hon. Member's question. However, information available indicates that there has been no change in the range of specialties at the Westminster hospital since 1979, and that over the period 1979–1983 the average daily number of available beds at the hospital rose from 339 to 405, and the number of inpatient cases rose from 11,386 to 14,850.

The hon. Member may wish to seek further information from the chairman of the Victoria health authority.
