HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c60W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the cost of social security payments in the United Kingdom per head of the working population for 1983–84; and what is the proportion spent on administrative costs.

Mr. Whitney

The cost of social security payments in the United Kingdom was nearly £1,350 per head of the working population in 1983–84, about 4.5 per cent. of this being the cost of administration.
