HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c57W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many (a) male and (b) female employees were in full-time employment in Scotland at the most recent date for which figures are available; and how this figure compared with one year previously and with figures for May 1979.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Information in the precise form requested is not available. However, the estimates of female employees in full-time employment in June 1979, 1983 and 1984 are 566,000, 498,000 and 501,000 respectively; all females in employment at the same dates are 898,000, 865,000 and 889,000. The estimates for all males in employment at these dates are 1,209,000, 1,073,000 and 1,064,000 respectively: at September 1981, 95 per cent. of the estimated number of all male employees were in full-time employment. The estimates for 1983 and 1984 are provisional.
