HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 cc19-20W
Mr. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what was the United Kingdom's contribution to the European Space Agency in 1984; what is the estimated contribution for the years 1985 to 1990; and if the United Kingdom estimate provides for co-operation and collaboration with the United States of America in the building of a space platform.

Mr. Butcher

The United Kingdom contribution to the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1984 was as follows:

£ million
Department of Trade and Industry 58.5
Science and Engineering Research Council 10.7
Meteorological Office 5.7
TOTAL 74.9

The level of future contributions to ESA and whether definition studies should commence on a possible space platform will be matters for discussion between the Ministers of the ESA member states later this month.
