HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 c507W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what initiatives have been taken by his Department during the last five years to make National Health Service facilities more easily accessible to Vietnamese refugees.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

In 1979–80 health authorities were provided with additional funds specifically to cover the extra direct costs incurred by community health services in those areas where special reception centres were set up. Also, our Department contributed material on the National Health Service to leaflets prepared for the refugees by the Home Office and voluntary organisations. Every effort has been made by the voluntary organisations working with the refugees to ensure that they are taken on the list of a general practitioner as soon as possible.
