§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) when he intends to complete implementation of those parts of the Griffiths report which 508W relate to the organisation of his Department; when he intends that the process of identification of general managers at unit level should be completed; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will now lay before Parliament the details of recent changes in the internal organisation of his Department, following the Government's response to recommendation No. 6 of the First Report of last Session from the Social Services Committee (HC 209).
§ Mr. FowlerDetails of initial changes made to the organisation of my Department in the light of the Griffiths report were given in my memorandum of written evidence to the Social Services Committee (published in HC 209). Now that the chairman of the NHS Management Board, Mr. Victor Paige, is in post, I shall be considering with him what further changes are needed. I will then be in a position to inform the House.
Health authorities have been asked to complete the establishment of the general management function at unit level by the end of 1985.
