HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 cc267-8W
Mr. Pike

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what contingency instructions his Department has given for essential staffing levels in local offices of his Department in the event of an emergency leading to the need to introduce power cuts.

Mr. Whitney

No specific contingency instructions have been issued.

In the event of power cuts, the staffing levels of local offices would remain at normal strength, and measures would be taken to supply alternative sources of heating and lighting where necessary. It would be the responsibility of a local office manager to decide on priorities if the effectiveness of his office was impaired.
