HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 cc243-4W
11. Mr. Haynes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make changes in entry clearance procedures to ensure that the wives and children of men settled in the United Kingdom are able to exercise their entitlement to enter the United Kingdom with the minimum of impediment and delay.

Mr. Waddington

The entry clearance procedure is a sensible and effective means of assessing whether women and children seeking to settle here are entitled to do so. There are no plans to relax this requirement although improvements are made in the administrative arrangements wherever possible, within the constraints of the resources available.
