HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 c243W
8. Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to alter the regime in detention centres during 1985.

Mr. Brittan

As I said in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Hampshire, East (Mr. Mates) on 13 February, at columns 196–97, a new regime for all detention centres will come into operation on 6 March.

28. Mr. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many offenders will be subject to the new regime for detention centres when it comes into operation on 6 March.

Mr. Mellor

The new regime will apply in all 18 detention centres in England and Wales; offenders subject to detention centre orders may be held elsewhere only for temporary purposes or medical reasons. Information on numbers of receptions under detention centre orders is contained in Home Office Statistical Bulletin, Issue No. 2/1985, a copy of which is in the Library of the House.
