HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 cc262-3W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has any plans to introduce legislation to amend section 79 of the Finance Act 1972 in relation to the acquisition by employees of shares in subsidiary companies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moore

[pursuant to his reply, 27 February 1985, c. 211]: I have no plans to do so. The necessary purpose of section 79 of the Finance Act 1972 is to counter devices that might otherwise give employees extra remuneration free of income tax. Any company contemplating a scheme to which section 79 could be relevant may seek advice from the Inland Revenue.
