HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 c235W
Mr. Bagier

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total sum of money spent by the Welsh development agency on promotion and marketing for the financial years 1982–83 and 1983–84; and what is the expected spending for the financial year 1984–85.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The Welsh Development Agency spent £2.3 million on promotion and marketing in 1982–83 and, in addition, made a grant of £1 million to the Development Corporation for Wales of which about £0.5 million was spent in the promotion overseas of Wales as a location for industrial investment. In 1983–84 promotional expenditure by the WDA, including expenditure by WINvest which succeeded the Development Corporation for Wales on 1 April 1983, totalled £2.6 million. The Agency, again including WINvest, expects to spend about £3 million on promotion and marketing in 1984–85. These figures exclude salaries and other related costs.
