§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will indicate for the other European Economic Community countries the legislative requirements for hotels and guest houses to participate in schemes of registration and classification, together with exemptions on size or other features.
§ Mr. Norman LamontMy Department has no comprehensive information about hotel registration and classification schemes operating in other EC countries. However, research carried out in 1983 by the English tourist board indicated that all other EC countries operated some form of compulsory hotel registration and licensing which in some cases also involved hotel classification. I will ask the ETB to write to my hon. Friend.
