HC Deb 27 February 1985 vol 74 c211W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why Her Majesty's Government have accepted the principle of a more frequent use of majority voting in the EEC Council of Ministers.

Mr. Rifkind

The Government consider that British interests would be well served if votes were more regularly taken in respect of those treaty articles which provide for majority voting, with the important proviso that it should remain open to any member state to postpone a vote indefinitely where very important national interests are at stake.
