Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish the cost of teachers' salaries in each year since 1978–79 and the proportion they were to total expenditure on education in each year.

The expenditure since 1979 by local education authorities in England on the salaries of school teachers as a proportion of finer total net expenditure on schools is as follows:—
