§ Sir Hector Monroasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultations he has had about holding the 1992 Olympic Games in the United Kingdom; and if he has offered any financial resources.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneBids for staging the Olympic Games are the responsibility of the British Olympic Association and interested cities. In a recent meeting I asked BOA officers for their assessment of the future prospects of staging the Games in this country; I understand they are currently considering whether or not a bid could be developed for 1992 or a subsequent year. No offer of financial resources has been made.
§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether he intends to consult relevant bodies about the level of commercial sponsorship that would be appropriate if the Olympics Games are held in London in 1992;
(2) which sporting organisations, which local authorities and which of the local authority associations he intends to consult concerning the proposal to hold the Olympic Games in London in 1992.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneAny consultations about staging the Olympic Games in this country in 1992 or subsequent years would be for the British Olympic Association and the city concerned.
I refer the hon. Member to the answer I have given my hon. Friend the Member for Dumfries (Sir H. Monro) today.
