HC Deb 25 February 1985 vol 74 c79W
Sir Geoffrey Johnson Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether it is likely to be possible to provide a television service for the Falkland Islands garrison.

Mr. Stanley

I am glad to announce that we have authorised the provision of a TV service operating from the Mount Pleasant airfield site in the Falkland Islands. Orders for the necessary equipment have already been placed by the Services Sound and Vision Corporation and it is planned to bring the service into operation in mid-1986. The service will be a blend of taped current BBC and ITV programmes.

I am sure that this will be a very welcome addition to the recreational facilities available to those members of the armed forces serving in the Falklands.
