HL Deb 14 February 1985 vol 460 cc383-4WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will introduce a scheme to register all fish and shellfish farming business in Great Britain, and whether they will authorise that the information in this registry should be made available to those with a legitimate interest in the locations of fish and shellfish farms, such as the county trusts for nature conservation and the Nature Conservancy Council.

Lord Belstead

It is the Government's intention to introduce such a registration scheme under the powers provided by the Diseases of Fish Act 1983. Section 9 of the Act places very strict limits on the disclosure of specific information gained through registration which would preclude the passing of such information to such organisations as those mentioned in the noble Lord's question.
