HL Deb 14 February 1985 vol 460 cc379-80WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of the 500 submissions received by the Social Security Advisory Committee on the board and lodging benefit proposals were favourable and how many critical; and how many submissions were received from voluntary bodies, and of these how many indicated that the organisations' work would be made harder or impossible.

The Earl of Caithness

A list of over 500 organisations and individuals who have submitted evidence to the Social Security Advisory Committee on this subject has been placed in the Library. Of the voluntary organisations who responded, some welcomed the broad framework of the changes, particularly in relation to residential homes, but most were critical of one or more aspects of the proposals, and many said they felt that the proposed changes would create additional difficulties for them. We have now received the committee's report and are considering our response.
