HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 cc429-30W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, pursuant to the answer of 30 January, Official Report, column 206–7, regarding the development of the west of Scotland science park he will state the basis for the statement that the park has been operating for two years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Allan Stewart

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his reply of 30 January, Official Report, columns 206–7, regarding the action of the Scottish Development Agency property division taking over the west of Scotland science park, Maryhill, if the science park is now to be managed as an industrial estate; and if he has discussed, or will discuss, the arrangements with both Glasgow and Strathclyde universities.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The west of Scotland science park will continue to be developed and managed for occupation solely by companies engaged in high technology research and development. This is reflected in the terms on which the agency leases the site from Glasgow university. Each letting moreover continues to require the concurrence of both Glasgow and Strathclyde universities. The management arrangements are the responsibility of the agency and there is no reason for me to discuss them with the universities.
